Westlake Races Past LaPlata 48-6

Posted Monday, October 16, 2006 by Richard Holzer

On Friday the Westlake Wolverines rallied behind two game changing interceptions in the 3rd quarter to beat LaPlata 48-6. The Wolverines, sparked by Brandon Orebeduga and David Ingram interception returns for TDs, came alive in the third to score 35 unanswered points in the second half.

The first half was a defensive battle as both teams jockeyed for field position. The Wolverines managed to find the end zone 2 times in the first half, once on an Albert Hanks 1 yard plunge and the other a Mike Holley TD reception from Darin Moore. The Westlake defense shut the Warrior offense out and rarely let them cross the mid field stripe.

The second half opened with LaPlata recovering an on side kick. On the ensuing play the Warriors attempted a pass which seemed to be a David Ingram interception, but the officials flagged Ingram for interference. On the second play the Warriors went to the air again and the pass was knocked down by Orebeduga. However, the officials stepped in again and called a personal foul on Westlake. The third and final play saw LaPlata attempt a deep pass in which the receiver appeared to catch the ball out of bounds, but the official called it a touchdown. This would be the spark the Wolverines needed, as the offense and defense rallied. The result was a 35 point 3rd quarter. The quarter was highlighted by Orebeduga and Ingram interception returns for TDs and two blocked punts which resulted in Westlake Tds.

Congrats to the Wolverines. They travel to Great Mills this week in attempt to become 7-1. Good Luck!
