Westlake Tangles With Friendly

Posted Friday, August 25, 2006 by Richard Holzer
On Thursday, August 24th, the Westlake High School Wolverines opened the 2006 season at Friendly HS in a scrimmage. The Patriots gave the Wolverines some excellent work, as both schools are highly ranked pre- season. Offensively, the Wolverines got off to a slow start. The opening 15 plays were marked by penalties and mistakes. However, the Wolverine offense settled down to score 4 times in their second set of 15 plays. The TD's came on a 60yd Kenard Harris run up the middle, a pass from QB Darrin Moore to a wide open Jesse Mitchell down the right sideline, a BRUISING Albert Hanks off- tackle run, and a Greg Walker sweep. Defensively, the Wolverines stymied the Patriot run game. The Wolverines were between twice through the air on the 1st team and once with the second team, but all the passes came after the QB was flushed from the pocket and defenders got out of position. The defense did create several turnovers and looked good despite the 3 big plays. Overall, the Wolverines did a great job and the season looks bright! We look forward to a great season. Up next, is Roosevelt HS, a 4a powerhouse who is sure to give the Wolverines all they can handle.
